DU Volunteers in Action
As we celebrate National Volunteer Week this year, we’re spotlighting four exceptional University of Denver alumni volunteers whose commitment fuels our mission every day.
Nominated by their colleagues, these volunteers exemplify how generosity and talent strengthen our community. Each spotlight showcases the unique ways volunteers make an impact and what inspires them to give back to DU. This is our opportunity to recognize their contributions, express our gratitude, and encourage others to embrace the spirit of service that define this week.
Thank you to all DU volunteers for enriching our students’ experiences and enhancing our programs. We couldn’t do it without you. Together, we are showing the world what DU can do.
Nick Machol (MACC '08, BSAC '08)
Chair, Daniels College of Business Executive Advisory Board
“The partnership I have with Daniels is the honor of a lifetime. It's motivating, exciting, and incredibly rewarding—and I feel like I’m just getting started.”
As the chair of the Daniels College of Business Executive Advisory Board (EAB), Nick Machol (MACC '08, BSAC '08) wears many hats: program officer, guest speaker, organizer, facilitator, and trusted thought partner. Having been involved with the EAB for a decade, Machol not only offers valuable insight and strategic perspective but also executes ideas into action and motivates others to do the same.
Under Machol’s leadership, the EAB has evolved from an advisory group into a highly engaged and effective board—one that actively shapes strategy, strengthens connections, enables meaningful philanthropy, and advances the mission of the college.
John Jarosz (BA ’09)
Chair, Pride Alumni Affinity Network
“Volunteering is my way of paying it forward to students finding their own path."
Alumni Council member and chair of the Pride Alumni Affinity Network for nearly three years, John Jarosz (BA ’09) has been a steady source of vision, resilience, and community building for LGBTQ+ alumni and students at DU. Through times of celebration and times of uncertainty, Jarosz has shown up with clarity, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to belonging.
Jarosz began volunteering at DU as a guest lecturer at Daniels College of Business, teaching MBA classes in Design Thinking and Product Management, and soon got involved with the Pride Network. Under his leadership, the network has launched and sustained a newsletter, coordinated DU’s presence in the Denver Pride Parade, partnered with the Denver Gay Men’s Chorus and the Newman Center, championed Lavender Graduation participation, and brought people together through vibrant and affirming local events.
Imran Choudhry (BS ’02)
“DU is a special place, and there is no better feeling than playing a pivotal role for a student to be inspired to achieve their goals through mentorship and guidance."
Imran Choudhry’s (BS ’02) commitment as a DU volunteer stems from his interest in helping students succeed, build meaningful networks, and launch their careers, just as he experienced as a DU student. As a regular in the Mentor for a Moment: Healthcare Edition program at DU, he has guided countless students in exploring career paths, particularly in healthcare.
An orthopedic hand surgeon, Choudhry brings deep professional expertise to his mentorship while remaining approachable and available to students. They regularly praise how easy he is to talk to, and how valued they feel in his presence, making him a trusted resource during many phases of their education.
Choudhry has been a tremendous DU ambassador, often serving as an orientation speaker, offering candid insights and heartfelt advice to new students. In spring 2025, he represented the university as an alum ambassador at two admitted student events to begin connecting students to professional networks.
Marcianne (Marci) Jenkins (BSBA ’94, MBA, ’96)
“Marci’s involvement has directly enhanced the student-athlete experience, recruiting, retention, and overall program success."
Marcianne (Marci) Jenkins (BSBA ’94, MBA ’96) has shaped the trajectory of DU Gymnastics for nearly three decades. A former student‑athlete herself, she embodies the resilience, creativity, and community building that define the sport — and she’s been the volunteer voice of DU Gymnastics since 1998, serving as the television and livestream commentator for meets across generations of athletes.
At the heart of Jenkins’ volunteerism is her commitment to building the “Denver Way” experience — a culture centered on character, teamwork, and excellence. She shares her insight, networks, and lived experience with student‑athletes, empowering them to thrive both on the competition floor and far beyond it. Her leadership has strengthened alumni engagement as well, creating a multi‑generational community where past and present gymnasts feel deeply connected to one another and to the program.
