Celebrating Commencement

June 14-15, 2024

The University of Denver proudly hosted three commencement ceremonies on June 14 and 15, honoring the 2,400 graduates who earned their prestigious bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees this year. Distinguished speakers Maureen Hinman and Marc Nathanson welcomed the graduates as they joined the esteemed ranks of DU alumni—earning lifetime identities as proud DU graduates.

It is such an honor to celebrate you! And this class, in particular, deserves special recognition."
Chancellor Jeremy Haefner

This year’s undergraduate ceremony was particularly poignant. The class of 2024, many of whom missed their high school graduation due to the pandemic, overcame numerous challenges throughout their college journey. To celebrate their resilience and perseverance, undergraduates finally got to participate in a special DU tradition, capturing a group photo typically taken during the first week of their freshman year.

As we look back on this momentous occasion, we celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2024 and look forward with great anticipation to the remarkable contributions they will make to the world. Congratulations once again to all the graduates—we are excited to see where your journey leads next!

Graduate Ceremonies

Thousands of well-wishers were on hand at Magness Arena on June 14 to celebrate the approximately 1,300 graduates who received their master’s and doctorate degrees from the University of Denver.

Chancellor Jeremy Haefner opened both the “crimson” and “gold” ceremonies by recognizing the challenges that this year’s graduates have faced on their academic journey as well as their persistence. Click below to read more about the graduate ceremonies.

Undergraduate Ceremony

Most of the Class of 2024 graduated from high school at the height of pandemic-era restrictions, social distancing and remote learning, with many schools altering or forgoing their graduation ceremonies entirely. But four years on, thousands of family members and friends packed into Magness Arena on June 15 to celebrate the accomplishments and perseverance of the Class of 2024.

Chancellor Jeremy Haefner highlighted how they weathered the pandemic and its impacts on social life and well-being, as well as ongoing global, political and on-campus issues. “You persevered,” Chancellor Haefner said. “You proved to yourselves that you are more than capable, and all of us at the University of Denver are incredibly proud of you.” Read on to learn more about the undergraduate ceremony.

Restoring a Tradition

Due to COVID distancing, the Class of 2024 did not have the opportunity to create their "DU" photo on the athletic fields at the beginning of their first year in 2020. We made good on that tradition at their commencement ceremony this year—you can watch memories in the making below.
